First Aid Measures

Ingestion
The possible benefit of early removal of some ingested material by cautious gastric lavage must be weighed against potential complications of bleeding or perforation. Activated charcoal activated charcoal binds most toxic agents and can decrease their systemic absorption if administered soon after ingestion. Activated charcoal: administer charcoal as a slurry (240 ml water/30 g charcoal). Usual dose: 25 to 100 g in adults/adolescents.
Inhalation
Move patient to fresh air. Monitor for respiratory distress. If cough or difficulty breathing develops, evaluate for respiratory tract irritation, bronchitis, or pneumonitis. Administer oxygen and assist ventilation as required. Treat bronchospasm with beta2 agonist and corticosteroid aerosols.
Skin
Remove contaminated clothing. Wash exposed area with soap and water. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention. Launder clothing before reuse.
Eyes
Irrigate exposed eyes with copious amounts of tepid water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation, pain, swelling, lacrimation, or photophobia persist, the patient should be seen in a health care facility.

Handling and Storage

Storage
Keep in a cool, dry location in a tightly sealed container.
Handling
Handle only in a hood.

Hazards Identification

Inhalation
Irritation of the mucous membranes.
Skin
Irritation, allergic reaction.
Eyes
Irritation. Corrosive.

Exposure Controls/Personal Protection

Personal Protection
Wear rubber gloves and wash thoroughly after handling. Contaminated clothing should be laundered before reuse.
Respirators
OSHA/MSHA approved respirator.
Poison Class
4

Fire Fighting Measures

Flash Point
129
Fire Fighting
Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Use agent most appropriate to extinguish fire.
Fire Potential
Fire point, 316 C. Nonflammable

Accidental Release Measures

Small spills/leaks
Evacuate area. Wear protective equipment. Ventilate area. Sweep up and place in an appropriate container. Wash contaminated surfaces to remove residue.

Stability and Reactivity

Stability
Stable for at least 4 years, not sensitive to light stable to UV light.
Incompatibilities
Strong oxidizing agents.
Decomposition
Not reported.
