It has only weak antibacterial activity and is of no value when used alone. However, it can be firmly combined with most β-lactam enzymes to generate irreversible binding compounds to inhibit the damage of β-lactam enzymes to the antibacterial properties of antibiotics and increase the antibacterial spectrum and efficacy of some antibiotics.
