5,7-dimethoxychromen-2-one

5,7-Dimethoxycoumarin is a natural compound that belongs to the group of coumarin derivatives. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity and genotoxic activity in model systems. 5,7-Dimethoxycoumarin also binds to response element (RE) in the promoter region of gene and can be used as a probe for DNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification. This compound has been shown to inhibit skin tumor formation when applied topically. 5,7-Dimethoxycoumarin is found in fructus (fruit) of plants and has been shown to have biological properties such as protein synthesis inhibition, immunosuppressive effect, and anti-inflammatory activities. 5,7-Dimethoxycoumarin may be used as an analytical method for determining drug interactions with other drugs by measuring the concentration of this compound in urine samples using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
