Uses
For use in calmodulin (P 0270) assay. Activity is reduced to <50% without calmodulin present.
Uses
Phosphodiesterase, 3′,5′-cyclic-nucleotide-specific from bovine brain has been used to assay the protein activator, calmodulin and in
in vitro adenylate cyclase assay.
General Description
Phosphodiesterase (PDE1) exists in two isoforms -PDE1A2 and PDE1B1. The enzyme has a role in the complex interaction between cyclic nucleotides and Ca
2+ second-messenger systems.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Hydrolyzes the 3′,5′-phosphodiester bond in cyclic nucleotide monophosphates, such as cAMP and cGMP, to the corresponding nucleotide 5′-monophosphate.
Clinical Use
Phosphodiesterase-3 (PDE3) is an enzyme responsible for degradation of cAMP to AMP in platelets
and blood vessels. Selective cAMP PDE3 inhibitors, such as dipyridamole and cilostazol , inhibit the degradation of cAMP, thereby increasing cellular concentration of cAMP and
leading to inhibition of platelet aggregation and vasodilation.
